Onboarding automation should help new members understand where they are and what to do first. It works best when it supports the community rather than replacing the welcome.

Before approval

Use participation questions to learn why the person wants to join and whether the group is relevant to them. Save only the information you need after approval.

At approval

Move useful answers into your sheet or CRM when appropriate. If the person requested a resource, make sure the delivery process is ready.

After approval

Send one clear welcome message, point to the best starting post or guide, and invite a simple introduction. Avoid sending several automated messages at once.

After the first week

Let normal group activity do more of the work. A good onboarding process helps someone enter the community. It does not need to keep pushing them through an endless sequence.
